Is this me making a new post? Is this me using Appropriately Capitalized Sentence Structure? Well...okay, now it isn't. But it was at first.
The sloppy joes. The Worchestershire. I want in on these things. I have hidden all manner of vegetables inside a sloppy joe. Sometimes it's the only way to get green things into a toddler. Lima beans. In a sloppy joe. True story.
I don't have a recipe for you this morning, because last night was chaos. The baby ate yogurt and applesauce and goldfish crackers and NOTHING ELSE. The responsible parents stood around the kitchen island and ate cold hummus right out of the store-bought containers. Dessert was a hunk of your chocolate chip zucchini bread, for which I would like to thank you sincerely. It was a rough day.
Tonight, I have some Omaha burger patties that I need to cook before they go bad. We usually dress them up with some Swiss cheese and sauteed mushrooms and slap them on whole wheat buns with mustard. I'm thinking sweet potato fries would be good with that! And finally motivate me to use the free bag of sweet potatoes someone gave me before they rot in the bin!
and tomorrow you can tell me how in the hell you cooked the mushrooms! what do you even DO with a mushroom intended for sustenance?
ReplyDeleteoh child. mushrooms are the easiest things!
ReplyDeleteit may sound kinda gross, but for the burgers i don't actually "sautee" shit. i line a pan with foil and cook the burgers in the oven. when they are nearly done, i dump some mushrooms in with them and continue cooking. i try to space the mushrooms so they aren't swimming in the burger grease, and i pat them a little dry afterwards, but that's all i do. i just heat them up somewhat near the meat and they come out awesome.
if you want to do it "right," i guess you could swish them around in a skillet with a little oil or butter and some seasoning. but i like my way fine.
i would actually like to make a post soon about how i am no fucking gourmet, i just like things that i think taste good. i feel no shame for using canned mushrooms. i have cooked with the beautiful, fresh mushrooms that come in the enticing little packages in the produce aisle. and the end result - to me - is not much different than dumping a drained can of pieces in the skillet. so i save money and stock up on canned mushrooms, and i use them in EVERYTHING. especially pasta dishes, but honestly, everything.
exception: shish kabobs. gotta use whole fresh ones for skewering and grilling.
oh lord, i just remembered how you are about canned vegetables (and rightfully so) so i'll have to see about low or no sodium options in canned mushrooms. i have never seen them sold frozen, but who knows.
ReplyDeletei do rinse mine before using them, if that helps.
but, i mean, then i dump them into a pan of red meat, so WHOOPTY DOO.
ReplyDeletei love that you remember my aversion to canned foods! obviously, you can't always getting around using canned veggies, so i do use them. i ALWAYS use canned beans because who has time to soak beans for hours and days and weeks? not this bitch. i always rinse mine, too, so that's a good habit.
ReplyDeletehere is your new job: write a blog post about these burgers with step by step instructions, including things like OVER TEMPERATURE. i really can't figure this stuff out on my own because i am practically retarded.
